Antonio (Nio Gwan Chung) born in Sukabumi Mei, 12 1967 from the parent of Liem Soen Nio and Nio Sem Nyau a Chinese Shinse and Budha Tridharma priest. He graduated from faculty of Shariah University of Jordan and attached informally to Islamic Studies at Al Azhar University Cairo. He earned Master of Economics from International Islamic University Malaysia and PhD from University of Melbourne in Micro Finance and conducted visiting research at Oxford University. Currently Antonio serves as Expert of Islamic Banking Committee at the Central Bank of Indonesia and Board of Advisor and Board of Shariah at numbers of Islamic financial institution to include Bank Mega Syariah, Bank Syariah Mandiri, Takaful, Bank Ekspor Indonesia, and Permodalan Nasional Madani.
Antonio also chaired Batasa Tazkia Consulting, a training and consulting firm on Islamic finance. With this institution he played a major role in the establishment of 14 Islamic divisions of conventional banks, 7 Islamic insurance windows and numbers of Islamic investment management companies. Together with his team Antonio has been conducting training on Islamic banking and finance to more than 9,500 bankers and financial practitioners in the country.
Since 2001 Antonio has been serving as Rector of Tazkia University College for Islamic Economics. Currently he manages more than 1000 students on Islamic accounting, financial management and economics sciences.
In social work Antonio established Tazkia Micro Finance Center (MFC), a micro lending initiative that modeled after the Grameen bank of Bangladesh but with Islamic structure of loans and coaching. With its partner institution Tazkia MFC has been able to extend Shariah based lending to more than 10,000 families mostly in West Java.
Since 2006 Antonio serves as Shariah Advisory Council at the Central Bank of Malaysia. The appointment letters were signed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia in his capacity as the first Minister of Finance and by the Governor of Central Bank of Malaysia. Antonio also sits as International Shariah Board of Dar Takaful (al Mawarid Finance and Insurance group) DUBAI. In June 2010 Antonio was promoted by the President of Republic of Indonesia as member of National Economic Committee (Presidential Decree No. 31/2010)
Antonio published more than 21 books on Islamic Banking, Zakat, Leadership and Management, including his award winning book “Muhammad SAW, the Super Leader Super Manager”. (IBF Award 2009).
For his contribution to the field of Islamic economics and Islamic finance Antonio has received Syariah Award” from Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Indonesia and Majelis Ulama Indonesia. On January 31, 2007, Antonio also awarded “Anticorruption & Good Corporate Governance Award by the Ministry of State Apparatus. Antonio has also received Arab Asia Finance Recognition Award from Arab Asia Finance Forum (2008). Antonio was selected by the Government of Australia as the best Australian Alumni for Business Leadership category (Australian Alumni Award, 2009). In February/March 2009 Antonio was also promoted by Ministry of Finance Indonesia as one of the nominees for IDB prizes from Indonesia. And in 2010 Antonio has also been awarded as one of the most productive Muslim Scholars by Ministry of Religious Affair Indonesia.
